2 months I can't believe how fast time goes. Here are his highlights from the month. Breastfeeding - wow all you moms out there, I can't believe how much it hurts. They are cracked and sore and bleeding. So around the time my sister came to visit August 23rd, I was still in tears and the doctor was concerned he wasn't getting enough to eat and wanted me to feed off the breast and then supplement him. Well I was feeding and pumin after, I should have plenty of milk. So I took a break from breastfeeding and started pumping, I did this for a week and he was doing great, took from the bottle great. In one week his weight started at 8lbs 2oz and grew over a pound! By his next doctor appointment September 10th he was 10lbs 14oz. I tried a few times going back to the breast but it was killing me and sometimes bleeding. I went and saw a consultant and my latch was good. Who the heck knows. Right now we continue to pump and give him the bottle. I seem to providing lots of milk, I can pump enough to still put away 1-3 bags each day. Everywhere I go I bring my little babe and my pump. Lol! - Alia , Cody Keston and Adria visit - started smiling and giggling and talking - holds his head up - plays with toys Had his baptism He got baptized at Lebret Church at 7pm August 24th. We had everyone over after for rootbeer floats and candy bar. He started to sleep through the night. We put him to bed around 9:30 bath, massage, book bottle bed. He was getting up around 4 and now it is around 7:30 8am. - eating he now eats 6ounces 5 times a day. - he had his first sleepover with my mom while Trevor and I went to a wedding. It went really good - he got his passport and health card - he now sleeps in his crib- September 5th he started to sleep downstairs. - first shots- eek, make sure someone goes with you. It is so sad! - went to his first golf game - loves boating - loves playing with his friend - he is a happy sweet baby and we are so blessed to have Elijah in our lives. We love him much! What a Month! Here are a few high lights of things Elijah has done. -smiled - rolled from tummy to back - first boat ride - first restaurant Sleeping Elijah is so awesome, we have a great night time routine. Around 9:30 he has a bath, baby massage ( he loves this) then a really tight swaddle so he can't move at all and he gets his Goodnight book from my sisters and his prayer book a recording of my sister. Then Trevor gives him a bottle from when I pumped. He sleeps until around 6am. His first late night boat ride he slept until 8am and had to wake him up, maybe a boat ride should be in order all the time. Breastfeeding Well I have to say this is the hardest thing I have ever done. The health nurse came over the Monday after we got out of the hospital and spent the afternoon trying to help get a good latch. Finally we started to use the shield and things went better. The next week or so my breasts hurt, cracked and were bleeding. I continued to see public health who are amazing support to help you. The nurse thought I might have thrush, I went to get nipple cream. Best prescpiton from the doctor ever, my nipples started feeling much better and I wasn't crying anymore. I always thought I would breastfeeding for a year, I was trying to make it to the end of the day. Now things are going much better, I still use the shield but no more tears. We pump after every feed because I use the shield but I have an amazing breat milk supply and Trevor loves feeding him at night time. Buy a double breast pump ... Worth every penny! Meeting Ella We have Trevor's parents a blanket that Elijah was wrapped in and they gave it to Ella. She slept with the blanket that night and when she met him the first time didn't really care. She is very calm around Elijah. Healing We had our placenta made into pills. We used Karen http://www.doulasofregina.com/Doulas_of_Regina/placenta_encapsulation.html Trevor called her when we in labour she met him picked up the placenta the hospital put in a Tupperware container and she had them back the next day. I took 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening. I don't have anything to compare to but I stop bleeding after two weeks and I felt really good. I was really sore the first week and Trevor made some padcicles for me. Just have to freeze some pads, feels really nice. Today we went home. Trevor was again amazing and packed and carried everything. We left the hospital at lunch time and arrived at our house. As I walked up the stairs, I saw this.... I couldn't stop crying, lol! What a wonderful sign. Thank you! Elijah did so good being under the light and not swaddled. As long as he had his pacifier he was good. But there was a long stretch of time that every 10 minutes he would spit it out. He is doing do good feeding. Dr. Salgado came to see him just after 6am, said everything looked good and he wasn't worried. But wants him in another day just to make sure. We had to keep him under the light until his blood work came back. When it did he was good, so he needs to eat every 2 hours and we another poop. He has had two poops and a few pees! Yay Elijah! He weighs 6 pounds 12 oz today. We can go home tomorrow after his blood work if everything comes back good. Yay!!! My dad and Alia came to visit. My mom had to stay outside with Adria, so well Alia got to cuddle Elijah, I got to cuddle Adria. I can't wait for them to meet. Adria is 9 pounds already and Elijah has bigger feet. He will help Keston protect Adria. I'm in heaven.... Great husband and great little boy.
Yesterday he was weighed at 7 pounds 1 oz. Well I had a good sleep and woke up around 6 with stronger cramps and back pain. We called the hospital at 8am and they told us to come back in to get checked. We are just waiting to see what is going in. Elijah Emile Perrey born today July 17th..... 7 pounds 4 ounces. Born today 5:07pm. Labour What a blur....everything seemed to happen so fast. we got to the hospital around 9:30 am and waited to get re checked. In the meantime my contractions were about 5 minutes apart. When the resident doctor came in to check me and take out the cervidill, she said I was about 3 cm. So they would bring me into a room and start me on the drip. We went into the room and got comfortable, I was nervous, here comes needle number 1. I would have to get an IV to start the drip. I knew that contractions would start even stronger, right now they were 5 minutes apart and uncomfortable. Trevor called my mom, who would be our doula during labour. When my mom got here we talked and chatted and had some good conversations, they started the drip....so far so good. But as things went on things got pretty tough....we tried different positions, the ball, on my knees on the bed (this one I really liked), squatting over a chair and moving around. Louise the most amazing nurse took care of us, she was so great. My mom and Trevor were awesome, telling me I was doing good and doing great comforting techniques.I thought I felt something like a pee but wasn't sure, there wasn't much, so I had a chance to go to the bathroom, which found out I had the bloody show. Wow that worried me a bit, and I also had a bowel movement. It was hard to move around that much because I had to have a blood pressure cuff on and bands on my belly to monitor the baby heart beat, and of course the stupid IV. So Louise came and check me...not sure what time... cause time didn't matter anymore. I was about 4-5 cm....oh man. But she said I was doing good so suggested a bath, I went into the bath and it did really relaxed me. I actually thought I could breath through the contractions in the tub....but then they got even stronger. I had to get out and get out now. I didn't know if I could take any more. At some point then Louise checked and I was 8cm....I thought OK maybe I can do this without anything...but then I had a contraction. I asked for the laughing gas, but once she brought it in, and I had a contractions it was to much to breathe and worry about what was going on. So I didn't use it. After that I felt like I had to poop or that he was coming out my bum. she checked me again and it was time to push. Oh man that was so much better to push, I had maybe 3-4 pushes then they called the doctor. Everyone was so awesome, compresses helped and pushing was just a relief. Doctors came in and I think 3-4 more pushes he was out, on top of me. I couldn't believe it, I love him so much!!!! I love Trevor so much. Trevor watch it all happen and even got to cut the umbilical cord.. I was the happiest person in the world!!!!! Thank god for husbands and moms! I was in tears of joy!!!! The best day of my life. I then had to push to get the placenta out, this was bit hard I guess I was bleeding a bit more, and then had to get another shot and medicine, I was loosing alot of blood and needed to get control. He was coming out so good until I guess at the very end he put his hand out to wave to everyone, at which point I tore. Third degree but not bad they said. Just the stitch up part I used the laughing gas it was uncomfortable. After that it was all good, my parents, my dad had a balloon that says BABY Boy. . Trevor's parents were in the room and meeting Elijah Emile and giving him hugs and kisses. Trevor and I are so blessed to have such a wonderful family. I love my family so much!!!! After the parents left, we got cleaned up headed to the Mother Baby Unit. Early that day Amy H told me that I should have the baby at 2PM and I would be in the Mother Baby Unit by 4PM where she works, she was off work at 7:30PM.. Elijah was born at 5:07PM and we didn't make it over there until after 8:30-9PM (can't remember). When we got there (I was in a wheelchair)Amy was there, she stay to meet him, I started to cry. She gave him his first bath. So amazing. When we got to our room, Number 14 in the mother baby unit, I felt like it was a great place. It was because it was the room my wonderful Friend Jacqueline stayed in, how wonderful is that. Then my sister Allison who is a nurse and was just on break got to come in and meet him. I cried again seeing my sister. That night I just watch Elijah I couldn't take my eyes off him. If I feel asleep I would wake right back up to make sure he was OK. They all told me I wouldn't sleep...they were right. But who cares... he is so damn cute. poor Trevor sleeping in that chair pulled out was, he is sooooooooo amazing he brought the little guy to me to breast feed (which he did the labour and delivery) and was doing awesome. Trevor changed him and bathed him, he did it all!!! I noticed that my mom was writing things down, I will have to post what she wrote. Well last night we went for a nice supper and ice cream, we were sleeping by 8:30.... Nothing much changed. So we will have to go back in this afternoon. Trevor and I are off for a long walk around the park and hopefully spark something into action. We got to the hospital around 2pm, but finally saw the resident doctor at 6pm. They check, I was softer and 1cm. Yay... It worked a bit. So they did round two, same as yesterday (shoe string). More cramping and back pain, hopefully it means its working. We are heading home now, but if nothing happens tonight we are to come back tomorrow morning. So we need to call at 8am tomorrow morning. Called the hospital this morning, it was busy so maybe this afternoon or tomorrow. I had called my doctor earlier to get an appointment that afternoon. But a few hours later.... 11am the hospital called and said to come in to be induced. We went to admitting and straight to the 2nd floor. We got hooked up to the fetal assessment and listened to the baby heart beat for an hour. The resident doctor came in around 1:30 and did a check. Cervix is closed so started me on cervidill. It's like a shoe lace they put inside. We need to stay at the hospital for two hours hooked up to the machine. So far only one really crampy contraction and the baby had the hicciups for awhile. We now head home, if my water breaks, the shoe lace falls out or contractions are 3-5 minutes apart we come back. Leah was our nurse and very sweet, she told Trevor to take me for a Italian dinner. If nothing happens we come back tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed! Well, everyday we have been told that we would be in to be induced. But the hospital has been very busy and baby Perrey has a lot of little friends to play with when he comes out. So today is the first day they said they aren't busy but they need to wait for a free bed in mother and baby unit. They informed me that I was number three on the list. So late this afternoon.... So instead of impatiently waiting we are heading out to the lake. That will bring In labour for sure! Come on baby Perrey we have waited so long, please don't make us wait any longer. |
